š Project Update! š
Elma Glasgow, founder of With Each Other CIC, recently shared this as a social post, and there was so much interest that it deserves a place here too!
She has been working with the University of Cambridge again ā this time on a new civic listening project.
Focusing on engaging with community groups around the city, she has had the pleasure of meeting fantastic people and hearing a wonderful range of opinions. She has also been surprised by how much she has learned about her home city!
She is proud to be a part of this project, and to be entrusted with this work.
The world is facing complex problems of many kinds, and as a result we require sustainable solutions. Communities often hold the key to problem-solving, and many universities are now reshaping their practices to bring communities closer to their innovative work.
University of Cambridge has massive potential to collaborate with local residents in a strategic way, so both the University and local people benefit.
Her work is a small but important part of the journey towards this goal. And it is a journey ā universities historically are not always immersed in their communities. It will take time to progress.
Alt Text: The first image features a joyful Elma, smiling and looking directly at the camera. The subsequent images showcase a selection of materials from the workshop, including post-it notes and photographs of Cambridge University, among other items.
Elma has learned a lot from the heritage sector ā museums are upping their game when it comes to engaging closely with the public ā and universities are learning to do the same, whether through listening to opinions, carrying out co-creation or other methods.
If you know a research centre or university that needs support engaging with the public in a way that builds positive relationships and includes a diversity of voices, share this post with them!
